It seems that wingsurfing / wingfoiling – whatever you want to call it – appeals to a large cross-section of people who are coming at it from diverse sporting backgrounds. Up to now these people have mainly consisted of windsurfers, kitesurfers, SUPers to some degree and surf foilers. We are already now close to the third year of wingsurfing gear being publicly available and the sport is starting to see a more broad range of participants hit the water. We hope that this basic guide will cover most of your first questions and queries about taking up wingsurfing, whatever your background. We asked our technical editor, Neal Gent, to walk you through his own experiences over the last two years of getting to grips with winging.

NEAL GENT’S BIO: First, it will help you to know a bit more about him. He is your classic early watersports adopter with masses of experience across several sports – but he’s not a professional; he’s a doctor, but understands the nature and pathway into this sport very well.
